Power Lounger Theme

from Roscoe's Gang by Eric Ambel

/

about

The instrumental "Power Lounger Theme" is just something that came into my head one time. There's two versions of it on the record; there's the sax version in the middle of the record, and then there's the guitar version at the end. We tracked the guitar version first, with me playing the melody, and later Lou showed me later that what I had come up with was a very Bill Doggett organ-trio type song. I didn't really know who Bill Doggett was at the time, but we had Mr. Thing in the studio for one more day, and we realized that it would be genius to do a sax version. You need an instrumental theme. It was the '80s, when the Walkman first got popular, and everybody had that moment where they felt kind of cinematic. The first time you walk down the street with your Walkman, you realize you're in your own movie and whatever song you're listening to is your theme song. The Power Lounger was a drink we used to drink on Chuck's Pier in Fontana on Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
