The Girl That I Ain't Got

from Roscoe's Gang by Eric Ambel

about

"The Girl That I Ain't Got" was the first song I ever made up myself. It was when I got my very first Fostex X15 four-track cassette, and it was definitely written about a particular girl. In Springfield there's a really intense vintage guitar store called Third Eye, and I had gone there and bought a Les Paul, the first Les Paul I'd owned since playing with Joan Jett. I came right back from the guitar store to the studio, put some strings on the Les Paul, and then we cut that tune. The song was cool and exciting and dumb, and I still like it a lot. I still play it at gigs, and it's one of those songs that helps me get my thing going. The version on the album was cut pretty close to live. I did punch in the first part of the solo with a way-tuned-down guitar, trying to go for the baritone vibe.
